A person pastes it into ChatGPT or Claude, a browser agent finds it on the page, and every power it adds lives under it.","bodyMd":"## One address\n\npowers.now is the one link for every assistant your customers use. A business signs up and gets one address: `powers.now/<business>`, or its own domain. Every power it adds lives under that address. There is never one link per power as the primary address, because a business is one thing and its customers ask for it by name.\n\nTwo promises, in this order on every surface. For the business: signing up is easy. Claim the link, pick a power, it is live. For their users: engaging is easier. One link, any assistant, nothing installed, the card does the rest.\n\n## Three layers, shipped in this order\n\n**Hosted.** `powers.now/<business>`, claimed at sign-up and live at once. Free, and $19 a month per power when you go live.\n\n**Your own subdomain.** `powers.<business>.com`, one CNAME to powers.now. We terminate TLS through Cloudflare for SaaS custom hostnames, and the same pages run on the same engine. All powers, up to five, under your own subdomain, at Business, $49 a month.\n\n**Your own pages.** Smart elements on `<business>.com` itself, plus a line in your `llms.txt` and a `/.well-known/power.json` on your domain. One script tag or one element per page. Your domain declares your powers to every agent that reads it, on your authority, not ours.\n\nThe hosted link and the subdomain are the on-ramp. The own-pages layer is the product, because an agent reading `acme.com` then finds Acme actionable on Acme's own page.\n\n## Why not acme.com/powers\n\nA path on your domain needs a proxy you control. Most businesses cannot add one. Every business can add a CNAME and a line to a text file. So the path is offered only where a business already runs a proxy, and the subdomain is the default.\n\n## How the element knows the business\n\nThe engine is one shared path per power, the way a payment link is one shared checkout. The business is context, never a second copy of the code. The power resolves the business from the host the request arrived on, then from the business segment of a hosted link, then from a signed short code carried in a link an agent learned from the business's `llms.txt`, then from the `business` argument an assistant passes because it knows who the person is talking about. With none of these, the default is powers.now itself.\n\nThe person on the other side is known the same way: one powers.now sign-in, remembered across every business's powers.\n\n## Our own link, in use\n\n`powers.now/book` is the first example of a business's link in use. It is our own Lead Scheduler: a real calendar, real holds, real bookings. It stays the destination for our own intro calls, and it is the bare-path default when no business is named.\n\n## What WebMCP adds\n\nWebMCP is a proposed web standard for exposing structured tools to AI agents from a page. It is the reason the own-pages layer exists: a smart element on your page declares its tools to the agent in the browser, and the same element renders the card. The standard is under active discussion, so we use it where it is present and fall back where it is not.","brief":"","canonicalUrl":"https://dev.powers.now/blog/the-one-link","graph":{"nodes":[{"id":"powers-now","type":"Organization","name":"powers.now","sameAs":["https://powers.now/","https://dev.powers.now/llms.txt"],"description":"The one link for WebMCP and smart-element interfaces: one address per business."},{"id":"the-one-link","type":"Concept","name":"The one link","sameAs":["https://dev.powers.now/add-it"],"description":"powers.now/<business> hosted, or the business's own domain carrying the same powers. Connected: our card renders inline through MCP Apps. We tested both, so we say both.","bodyMd":"## What we tested\n\nOn 2026-11-03 we put our own scheduler, `dev.powers.now/book`, in front of Claude and ChatGPT with nothing connected, and then with a connector. What follows is what each host did, not what we hoped.\n\n## Tier one: nothing connected\n\nClaude, with its built-in browser and nothing connected, read the page and the read API, built its own lightweight card from the openings in the snapshot, walked the qualifying questions, validated the input and ended on a deep link to the page with the slot and the answers pre-filled. It booked nothing. The visitor confirms on the page, which is the user lane by design.\n\nChatGPT, with nothing connected, tried to load our hosted card into the conversation and could not. There is no rendering bridge for remote HTML without a connected server.\n\nSo tier one is this: the assistant reads the page, the manifest and the read API, renders its own card in its own way, and hands the visitor the deep link. Our branded card is not in the conversation. The job still gets done, because nothing changes state over GET and the deep link carries everything the person chose.\n\n## Tier two: connected\n\nWith the powers.now connector added, our card renders inline. That is MCP Apps: a connected server returns an interactive interface that the host renders directly in the chat, in a sandboxed iframe the host controls. State is live. The assistant can hold and book, and the person watches it happen in the card.\n\nWebMCP alone never mounts hosted HTML in a chat. The branded card inside the conversation is an MCP Apps connector. WebMCP's job is a different one: the shared human and agent state on the business's own pages, for agents that live in the browser.\n\n## One connector, every business\n\nThe connector is `powers.now`, one per user, never one per business. The engine is shared and the business is context, so a user who adds powers.now once has every business's power inline from then on. That matters because the hosts count connectors: Claude's free plan allows one custom connector. One link makes one connector enough.\n\n\"Use in ChatGPT\" and \"Use in Claude\" on every power page produce each host's exact connector flow, step by step, not a hint. Listing powers.now in the hosts' directories turns that into one click by name.\n\n## Why say both\n\nBecause a visitor who hears \"works inside ChatGPT\" and then sees a plain text answer will not believe the next thing we say. Tier one is real and useful. Tier two is the product. The site says both, in that order, and the bridge between them is one connector added once.","brief":"","canonicalUrl":"https://dev.powers.now/blog/two-honest-tiers-inside-chat","graph":{"nodes":[{"id":"powers-now","type":"Organization","name":"powers.now","sameAs":["https://powers.now/","https://dev.powers.now/llms.txt"],"description":"The one link; also the name of the one connector a user adds to ChatGPT or Claude."},{"id":"chatgpt","type":"Product","name":"ChatGPT","sameAs":["https://chatgpt.com/","https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/custom-mcp-server"],"description":"OpenAI's assistant. It is the whole product. Everything else on this site is a consequence of it.\n\n## Why not widget, chatbot or plugin\n\nA widget lives on your site and is blind to the chat. The conversation is where your customers now ask, and the widget is not in it.\n\nA chatbot lives in a chat and is blind to your site. It is a model answering for you, in words, with nothing to click and no state that your page shares.\n\nA plugin is per host and per install. One for ChatGPT, one for Claude, one more for whatever ships next, each installed by each user.\n\nA power is none of these. It is one definition. It renders three ways, and the three ways share one record.\n\n## The three renderings\n\n**The page for people.** A readable page under your link, in your mark and accent. A visitor can do the whole job there with no assistant at all.\n\n**The card for chat.** Inside ChatGPT and Claude, the same power renders as an interactive card through MCP Apps, in a sandboxed frame the host controls. The visitor acts in the conversation; the business's state moves.\n\n**The layer for agents.** The page is readable as text, the read API answers JSON over GET, and every action has a deep link that opens the page with the choice pre-filled. An assistant with nothing installed reads, reasons and hands the person a link. Nothing changes state over GET.\n\n## One live state\n\nThe three renderings are not three copies. A slot held from a chat is held on the page. A form field a visitor filled on the page is filled in the card. Who did what is written down against every field: the person or their assistant, never a guess.\n\nOur own scheduler is the proof. It runs inside ChatGPT and Claude today, and it books real intro calls with us from the same calendar the page shows.\n\n## Where it runs\n\npowers.now hosts every power on Cloudflare Workers, and each business's live state sits in its own Durable Object, Cloudflare's building block for stateful applications. The business adds nothing to its stack. It claims a link, picks a power, and the power is live.\n\n## What to call it\n\nCall it a power. Not an element, not a module, not a widget, not a plugin.
